Teen Achievers

The Garner Road Teen Achievers program was started in the early 90’s by strong group of parents, volunteers and staff members.   They noticed that while children and adults of color in the Raleigh community were involved and invested, there was a lack of programming for teens and young adults.  In noticing this oversight, they found an avenue for teens that would enrich them educationally and socially.  Recently, we have begun the transition to the name Teen Achievers in an effort to make all students feel welcome as well as to help them realize they should not be defined by any single characteristic of themselves, but as a sum of their parts.

The program provides purposeful targeted activities and information sessions geared towards educating all teens.  It is the goal of the Achievers program to create, educated, involved individuals that aim to contribute to the overall well-being of their communities.  The program is designed to help youth and teens raise their academics expectations and expose them to diverse career and technical educational options.  The students meet on First Sunday each month to interact with mentors whose success and knowledge will inspire students to reach their personal goals.
